How to combine dry and wet ingredients simply.


How to properly combine ingredients is sometimes confusing in baking. My go-to method is making a well for dry and wet ingredients. It's quick. It's effective. Plus, it's awesome because it is like making an upside-down volcano science class experiment.


  • Dry ingredients
  • Wet ingredients


  1. In a large bowl, add dry ingredients. Using a fork, mix the dry ingredients together well. Make a large hole in the center of the dry ingredients. The hole should resemble a crater or an upside-down volcano. The hole is the well that will be filled with the wet ingredients later. Set aside dry well.
  2. In a small bowl, add wet ingredients. Using a fork, mix the wet ingredients together well. Pour wet ingredients into dry well.
  3. Using a fork, mix wet ingredients into dry ingredients until just combined.


  • Use a bowl that will allow for at least 2 inches of room from the rim.
